Announcements - One way to create them in AH

Recently, there have been a spate of blogs showing up with a remarkable resemblence to the KM Jive document link pages.

Title, short description, and link to a KM document.

Problem is that they are not meeting the requirements of Blogs for SCN.

Additional problem, there is no Announcement method available here in the new SCN.

Proposed solution is to use AnswerHub and Closed Questions. Create a new Question along the same lines as the old Jive document except make the Subject line start with ANNOUNCEMENT: [Your announcement here]. Put in a short description and a link. Put in an Answer saying this is a public announcement. Mark the Answer with Accept and then possibly Lock Comments to minimize the extraneous "Great post" remarks.

Check this out and see if it is a suitable vehicle.

I would make this a Poll so I could get feedback in a data format, but will have to make do with this Pseudo-Announcement. We don't have that tool either in the new world order. So we make do with what we can.

About what volume are your talking?

For how many days would the activity stream then be even more useless?

I remember the week when all discussions from the moderator space got converted into wikis on JAM.

So you would need to be quick to be finished before somebody brings the email notification back.

It does not look like it would be very much volume. I have only seen three or four so far this week. Until they get some sort of Announcement capability, what else do they use? Could add it to featured content of CTPs, but not enough CTPs for all topics and a bit cumbersome. Plus it still usually points back to AEM. It is a one shot deal.

Wait... what? There are actual requirements for blogs on SCN?! :) I thought people can post whatever they like.

I really doubt anyone would see these announcements if they are posted like that. I have the bookmarks for the question pages but they all filter out answered ones because I use them to see what needs to be answered. I never go to SCN to just see the recent answered questions. If I'm looking for an answer myself I'd use Google. But this might be unusual. :)

We really need a separate announcement functionality, I've already been pointing this out for a couple of years. And it's not just KM documents, some people post "oh, check out this video" or simple event announcements too. I believe we might need to see the specific use cases. E.g. are such announcements even need to be posted on SCN (maybe it should go to Support Portal or main page); what is the intended audience; what is the information life span, etc. Maybe KM links should rather be a collection that is updated.

I don't see a lot of these in the tags I frequent, so maybe someone else could clarify the specific scenarios. Thanks for thinking about a solution for this!

      Hi Jelena,

I have my own example. I found myself laughing out loud about the subject, but then realized it was a serious piece. Of course, I only know about it because I posted an editorial comment to find a more appropriate tag than Sustainability.

You are probably right about people seeing an announcement of this nature, but it figured it was worth the effort to propose something. It's better than using blogs like their Jive Document counterparts were used to link to KM Documents in the old days (you know, last month).
