So some chap just asked what the difference is between a transparent table and pool table. So tempted to answer
Transparent table
Pool table
And here's a pooled table
And a table cluster
Ha Ha Ha. So mean. The same happens when someone asks "What is Plant?"
Finally, for HANA afficianados, here are some column store tables.
Internal table
New game!!!! Put in a picture that might be something you use in SAP. Then others can guess what you're talking about.
1.
2.
Dang, could only do two images (THIS TIME)
Umm, your image names are a bit of a giveaway :-)
Some of my previous images I'm sure I've uploaded have gone awol.. at least I can't see them. But just in case they've really gone, here are some puzzles for you to figure out
and
I'm gonna go with Joins, and even if I am wrong, that's what I see, so that's OKAY.
I see nested tables but drawing blanks with the first one...
shadow table
I still see all the earlier pictures.
Dooooo iiiiiiit!
I so would like to see that in a 'real' answer. Brilliant selection of graphics, by the way.
I know Matthew Billingham should totally do this! Please???
Oh that's a tough one.
That's a wait step.
Yeah, I know that's the wrong answer. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Haha, well, of course you would interpret it related to your field of specialization! ;)
Hint: One type of these is
Haha, it's a server. :)
This is what I don't use.
I've got used to it. I have a bit of a flaky network at home sometimes - I have powerline adaptors connecting the various parts of my home to the router. For some reason, when I use a VPN - and I use 3 different ones - everynow and then I lose internet connectivity entirely, and have to reset the adaptor.
Anyway, when using eclipse, I just get a timeout. When reconnection is made, I can continue where I left off. SAPGui just crashes and throws you out, cruelly leaving your session logged in, but no way to access it.
Mind you I also have to use it for HANA development, AMDP etc. Resistance is futile... ;-)
SAPGui just crashes and throws you out, cruelly leaving your session logged in, but no way to access it.
This is one for "things SAP could fix" list that has been bugging me since forever. "You have another session open." Oh yeah? Where is it? How can I get to it? You threw me out and now you're asking stupid questions! Just let me back in for cripes sake.
It's worth the learning curve. I recently worked on an eclipse-less system and it was really awful having to write out stuff and refactor by hand. Can't stand working in the GUI anymore, I only use it for Web Dynpro these days.
It might as well be true but we don't have it and I just don't see a very compelling reason to push for it TBH. I don't even mind the old editor in its simplicity. But it's just the matter of preference, I wouldn't try to convince anyone otherwise.
I will admit it needs a better understanding of ABAP to use properly, and some people prefer a clickety-click interface to remembering the syntax of a class definition. So it's whatever works for you.
Refactoring is a VERY compelling reason, so if you rework a lot of old code do give it a try.
Want to turn a block of code into a new method? Select it -> extract method. It even works out what should be importing/changing parameters and what to declare locally.
Rename a method or an importing parameter? No problem, it will change your method code and all it's callers (up to 50 of them).
Refactoring, haha, OMG! Unless it can completely rewrite the programs it's not an issue at the moment. The other day was looking at CONCATENATE 'something' lt_table INTO ... and lt_table is a header line! Why does this even compile? Changing methods ROFL... Thanks for the giggles, Mike! :)
Just for Mike Pokraka (since you always have to ask for it in the Q&A)
n=1 branch of a binary search tree?
Looking for the log, aren't you?
Ding ding ding! Winner! I'm always surprised how often we (OK, Mike Pokraka !) have to ask for the technical log files in the Q/A. I think we should just paste that pic in our responses...
Might be a bit tricky this one. What ABAP command is this?
Amen.
OK, this one might be slightly oblique:
Hint: It has nothing to do with clocks or time.
Is it a circular reference?
looks like ASAP
Haha, you've make a good point :-)
No it's more closely related to Susan Keohan's earlier contribution. Or rather a more specific type thereof.
"Time chairing"? :)
Some kind of SAP R/3 allegory? Looks impressive but made of wood and will wear off by 2025? :)
No, more "technical" than that...
There, I've given it away.
Hi Mike,
Your picture disappeared but I am still hoping for the answer - my guess would be 'chronological log' but then you'd said it had nothing to do with clocks or time, so I'm stumped (aha ha ha, see what I did there)
But don't worry about the picture, I'm sure it will come back ;-)
Actually that’s an even better answer :-)
I had technical log in mind. I thought the hint to your log pic and the “technical” comment would do it, but it was a bit out of the box.
What happens when you log in to their system the first time and find this?
Balls on the glass? Sorry, drawing blanks here...
Someone already 'broke'???
That's the best pool-playing thing I can come up with.
So, what's this
The tear of a SAP Basis admin confronted with a legacy system?
..or a broken website
OMG Steffi Warnecke LOL!
When I get a call from a headhunter and they refer to it as THAT, I immediately either (1) hang up (2) have fun messing with them from then on.
"I have an urgent client requirement for ay-bee-ay-pee developer" [click]
Back when I worked with mainframes, we used CICS. This side of the pond known as Kicks (as in "System Programmers do it for CICS"); t'other side it was always see-eye-see-ess. Does the same relate to SAP? I here Ess-Ay-Pee as often as SAP.
By the way, SAP is only half the answer. There's more to it.
SAP on the web? haha
Same with "sequel" that is in other countries pronounced as letters S-Q-L.
The answer to your question translated into my language is:
But what is it?
Сап (pronounced as [sap]) is the wooden handle of an instrument like claw-hammer, spade, mattock.
Veselina Peykova, I was actually thinking of 'sap' (honestly) but in our country, they are mostly made to beat the heck out of people.
Another one. Small clue: a component of Netweaver.
Fairly simple, I think.
SLD ? Missing the UFOs to be a LMDB.
A heat map?
It's a star schema.
Schema - a representation of a plan or theory in the form of an outline or model.
Oh, I thought about "universe". Isn't that some kind of thingy for analysis or something?
Just need to get this one out of the way.
There are bagels somewhere in SAP? 8-[ ]
Rolls? :D
Matthew, you GAVE that one to me!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bread_roll
ABAP/4
Thank you for making my morning - every one of you!
In Ireland and parts of England, a soft roll is called a bap.
Wow. Do people just come up with these words at random? "Hey, look at this roll / bun! - No! We're not going to call it that! We are calling it a... uhm... a BAP! Yes, that's what we're calling it and the rest of you just buzz off!"
I thought that Midwestern "pop" vs "soda" (for non-alcoholic sparkling beverage) was odd enough but England just takes it to the whole other level. :)
And you think that’s weird? Brits don’t stop there. The professional body for cosmetic plastic surgeons in this country is called the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, or BAAPS for short. I’ll leave it to the reader fo figure out the link with baps (hint: slang term). You couldn’t make it up.
Go to Newcastle and tha' can have a stottie cake (pronounced kayeck) lass.
Why use one word when you have hundreds of regional variations.
pop is easy -- the bubbles , the sound they make when you take the cap off ;)
An easy one for functional folks:
*Are* there functional folks here?
<crickets>
In the current discussion there are at least 3 functional consultants (I think) and probably a few more working in techno-functional roles.
But maybe technical people have heard of this one too because they were asked asked to help with troubleshooting.
Some kind of a track? I'm only "techno-functional" though. :)
My word, so many unhip people here. Never heard of Agile and "sprints"!?
(Yes, I know that's not the answer).
ok, just cannot stop laughing. Here I got one which I did not see
What's that?
Structure :
Maybe it can be defined as "meshed internal table" ?
I don't know the answer to this one but it looks like it belongs in this discussion
Cluster Tables?
This looks like an R/3 allegory: some modules fit together well, some have stuff sticking out. And a hole is where Enterprise Services were supposed to come in. :)
Actually I think it’s more of a deep, nested, boxed structure table
Clue: usually not the best choice.
(NW) Gateway?
