[Status Update] My first one :)

My first status and I have some things to mend:

- My first blog in the new new SCN: ABAP Code Retreat Brazil

- A question... What policies we should take with people who are exploding updates, be they questions and / or blogs, on the network just to get attention?

Bye ;)

Exploding updates? Who does such a thing?

What do you mean exploding updates? (dangerous term!)

You mean like constantly just adding one new comment? Liking everything in sight?

    • Oct 25, 2016 at 07:07 PM

Yeah... on second thought here, the term I adopted was weird, sorry...

I mean the fact be doing updates on blogs or questions by the person who created them.

That's what I thought you meant. But yeah.. that's how it's designed. You get to see everything now.. welcome to the world of facebook and seeing 20 likes for a picture of someone's dinner. :-)

One of the problems is that the blog editor is WYSINWYG. I had to edit my blog several times to get it to look almost OK. At least I knew that the default editor is rubbish and used save as draft/preview+text mode until I got it right. I have no idea if this activity triggers updates to followers (how notifications work - this is a mystery to me), I hope - not. But someone, who encounters the blog editor for the first time and is not aware of the notification changes in the new platform, could spam multiple updates without ill intention. Not his fault - it is the bad design to blame.

I have the same issue when I try to make my comments readable. There you have no preview. So I spam the activity stream regularly, because I try to put some structure in my posts (or de-size a blown up smilie again).

            I do it to Steffi.

I'm a terrrible writer to start with and spelling was never a strong point. Add to that the typing miscues and my posts can be terrible. I've even now resorted to copying and pasting to Word to do a spell check and then pasting back. What a pain.

            And this editor is terrrible!!

              Me too... :)

Another thing I see bad this editor is unnecessary formatting it does, every time I have to open as HTML and remove tags... Oh gosh :(

Do you have any idea: if you update a published blog several times without publishing after each revision - does this spam multiple activity updates or only when you publish the last revision? SAP could have granted QA access for some time after the site launch. I am surprised that they didn't do that. We always provide some test/training environment for the business users even after go-live: there are always some new features to play with and new people changing positions.

Weeeeell, I would expect to only get updates if the blog is published again. Not for the updates before. But with this being the not yet done New SCN, we're talking about, you'll never know. ^^

Do you wanna test it with one of your blogs? ;)

This is a good question. When I have used WordPress elsewhere to update blog posts, it would note every save in the activity log visible onto me (as the blog admin), including "preview-only" saves, but I don't think it would notify streams (i.e., to social media and followers). So, since the WordPress platform has been pretty heavily adapted here, it's hard to say, since there are several options for where notifications might be generated.
