When did we get "most liked blogs"!?

Just noticed this on the front page:

Now, whenever there’s something new, those users (=me) ask for even more, so I'd like to know/see:

- most liked in what timeframe? Overall? Last 3 Days? other?

- Number of likes / comments (on the front page)

Shouldn't there be a blog explain this new(?) feature on tag “using”?

PS: In my opinion this ("hot" content on the front page) is going in the right direction - slow, but steady!

I do not use the community page, but it looks as if the hero image became bigger (compared it to a page from 04.09.2017 in the Internet Archive).

From what I can tell this most liked blogs column was introduced after 14.10, but when exactly, why and how it works I have no idea :)

I have mixed feelings about this top liked content - on one hand, it is good that the team is trying to add something that users asked for, on the other hand - in nearly all cases the 3 top liked blogs will be irrelevant to the majority of visitors.

If one has to read a blog to understand something as simple as top liked content section in a web page this is probably a sign that the design is not good.

Agree with you on the relevance to majority of visitors. We need more personalization elements for community to flow - for some members they are generalists, and some members are focused subject matter experts (SME) of one or more topic areas. I am following several tags that fit into these areas of mine (e.g. Fiori, Cloud Platform), so for me seeing the trending content (popularity or activity) within my areas of interest will be best organized with tag grouping and better consumption of what we currently have as the community topic pages (CTP), but not all SME areas have a CTP.

Any attempts to view trending content currently gets quite lost in my overflowing view within the activity/notification feed, and the moment I choose a single tag, my perspective gets far too narrow with a given SME area.

I'm guessing "personalization" of sorts will come with the "topic pages".

Even though currently the top liked blogs don't make a lot of sense to me, previously the Top Liked was a good place to find some "thought leadership" level blogs that I could've missed otherwise. Although that type of content doesn't seem to make it to SCN anymore...

Yes, I am reservedly optimistic that the 'topic pages' will help return some structure into the new tag world order of SCN.

Thought it was just me... I already had to zoom out in Chrome for other reasons but still that hero image looks way too big. Why do we even have it? What is SCN team trying to accomplish by showing us the same huge picture for over a month? They've already succeeded annoying the heck out of everyone a year ago...

I've noticed this Friday last week but it could've been introduced earlier. The reason I noticed was because the Mentor blogs used to be in the same location. So I saw an unfamiliar name and opened the blog to check if it might have a wrong tag. And only then I realized that those were not the Mentor blogs.

If memory serves, Top Liked we had before on SCN was for the last 24 hours or some other relatively short period. The blogs did not stay on that list for very long, unless it was something epic.

As you noted, this is a step in the right direction and a welcome change. But I wish it had more than 3 items. It's nice to see the profile pictures and tags there though (finally).

Edit: I very much dislike it though that now there are no "Top ABAP blogs". Why couldn't "top liked" be just added? It's really sad that these days when I see a change on SCN that is supposed to be positive my first thought is "oh f*k, what did they mess up this time?" :(

    Hi, Joachim:
You wrote: "shouldn't there be a blog explain this new(?) feature on tag 'using"

    The answer is: yep.

I try to do these, but per my "What did I miss?" post, I've been out of the loop. So it's possible some announcement was made while I was gone. I'm trying to find out. (I was aware that the "securty" issue was resolved, and I did set aside some time while I was away to get the info about that.)

Regardless, I'm checking around to see if someone with more knowledge can chime in.

    Best regards,

    Hi all,

Thanks for your comments. It did go live earlier this week (Monday). Before I address the specifics, I wanted to mention that the larger hero is there through TechEd season to accommodate live streaming during the conferences. After Barcelona, it will come down and be replaced with the smaller, previous hero.

RE: the new feeds, all are configurable. I was trying out some new combinations as these have a little more flexibility than the previous RSS feeds we had before. I'm aware that ABAP blogs are very popular, so I can always revert back to that after I give the new options some time to see how they perform.

The "most liked" goes back 7 days, but can be shortened to 2. Again, I'm trying to see how they perform before reconfiguring the feeds.

As always, your feedback is most welcome. Feel free to reach out to me directly if you'd like to provide more feedback. Also, if you see something that's amiss, please let me know if you can.

    Thanks again,

    Catherine LaCroix
