You scream, I scream after viewing Activity stream

This is what I see after clicking on "Followed Activity" (and yes, this is practically the whole page before I need to click 'More'):

Why, oh why is my own activity included? And, to add insult to injury, why does it show the post/comment that I liked or upvoted? I read it already, that's why I liked it! I don't need to read it again, my memory is fine (I think). As if the activity stream wasn't already polluted enough. This is insane.

According to this discussion,

https://answers.sap.com/questions/29552/followed-activities-stream-is-intially-empty.html

You will only see your participation and then after you click 'More', the activity stream will load all the contents you follow.

That's not actually how it works. It shows your activity and the activity of people and tags you follow, in reverse chronological order. If you don't follow much then it will be dominated by your own activities, but even the first page will have other activity unless you've been really busy. Mine currently looks like this:

(and there's another page of it before the "More" button). I don't understand why Jelena's would have only her three activities listed. Unless there's been nothing recently in the areas she follows. That sounds like a bug.

To clarify - I'm not seeing only 3 activities altogether, it's just all that fits on one page (=screen). In the old website I used to be able to view almost a day's worth of activities from many "followees" on 2 pages max. Now it takes I don't know how many because I get tired scrolling after 4-5.

Actually I already made suggestion long time ago on SCN 2.0 that our own activities shouldn't even show up there. (Does anyone actually have trouble remembering what they liked? I doubt that.) Of course, this never went anywhere (because Jive). But at least it wasn't as much of a problem there because the list was more compact. Now it really is a problem.

I have no trouble remembering what I liked, the problem is how to find the questions, on which I commented (they don't show in your profile).

In the old SCN I didn't really need that, because I could easily find that elsewhere.

Precisely my feelings - that's why I upvoted this https://ideas.sap.com/D37860# Maybe Johan Hakkesteegt can modify it somewhat. I don't want to have to follow or do something else in order to just find my own comments on a site. Just a link to a simple chronological list somewhere, with paging.

I somehow stumbled upon a place where we can see the comments: https://blogs.sap.com/wp-admin/edit-comments.php . But the old way our own content was displayed on SCN was better - all in one place with very clear filters.

I think it shows only the comments to blogs, not comments to questions... by the way, I don't know if this was the intended use of this functionality, but I managed to approve a comment made by me before the migration, which for some strange reason was stuck in the moderator's queue and was not displayed at all.

I'd love to know more how this is intended to work in the new platform - I don't expect that I should approve my own comments to any blogs- it must be the moderator's responsibility.

Hi Jelena - we keep running into each other, but I will resist the urge to Like this blog and simply comment on it (thereby keeping your Activities list one item shorter)

Word of caution - don't keep the window open too long, especially after pressing the 'More' button several times, you will get a timeout error/alert dialog and pressing 'OK' will reload the page, so you will start all over again :(

In the SCN from last week, I rarely used the Activities page, but when I did, the social media likes and other more trivial items were much more compacted and easily ignored...

Thanks, Jeremy! Sadly, I came to the same conclusion that I might need to resist the urge of "liking" anything just because of what it'd do to my follower's activity stream.

I had email notifications coming from SCN 2.0 and then used activity stream to catch up quickly on what others are up to. This usually took me 5 min. tops. I also never liked "social activity" there but, exactly as you said, it was easily ignored. Not so much anymore as (1) it takes huge amount of space; (2) it's difficult to distinguish it from the actual comments since the whole text shows and there is only a note in teeny-tiny letters saying it's a like or upvote.

You claim not having problems with your memory, but the Activity stream surely suffers from some mental sickness - I can see only 22 items in the list. You follow 3 times more people than me; assuming that at least 30% of them will be active, your Activity stream is overwritten every 1-2 hours. My cat remembers for a longer time than that :)

Yes, I'd like the Activity stream to be able to reach back further in time also. Especially first thing in the morning I'm sure I'm missing stuff I wouldn't have missed with the old Activity stream. It is also much harder work to scroll back through time because of the lower information density. It might look prettier with all that white space, but it is less useful.

is there a timeline on email notifications ?
never used activity stream on good old SCN and this new thing is just not good enough.

Nope, I've not yet seen an ETA about that written somewhere.

Denis, there are two tabs in the activity stream: Activities and Notifications. If you click on Notifications that would be what we used to receive by email (except it's much more cumbersome to use, of course). The Activities tab is what used to be 'Activity" before. This covers activity by the people you follow, "likes" and such. I also used to get notifications by email and checked activity stream online to see what others are up to. Really hope the emails will be back soon but I haven't heard any updates on that either.
