[Status Update] It's live! It's live! @mentions are back!

As you can see, I can barely contain my excitement. It's been a long time coming, but we have launched @mention functionality.

What if none of us had answered, Susan Keohan?

      • Sep 14, 2017 at 01:32 PM

IMO - the email trigger should be switched on automatically, just sayin'

        • Sep 14, 2017 at 01:40 PM

then I would switch it off, just sayin'. I consider switching it on when the current test hype over.

Agreed. I was thinking a little about members who may have gone on a community sabbatical, and would be pleasantly inspired to return if they were atmentioned.

We will not be turning on email notifications by default for everybody; that would definitely be too intrusive. We are considering sending a one-time email to existing users to let them know the feature exists (still not sure if/when that will happen) and possibly turning on @mention email notifications by default for newly registered users moving forward. But even that is not certain yet.

When we get the announcement feature returned it will help these sorts of broadcast communications :)

I don't have email notifications turned on - but Jürgen, if nobody had responded, then I would have slunk back into my corner, and never come out again!

Huh? What? Someone mentioned me? My ears are ringing. Oh, that's just a notification...

Worked like a charm, Susan Keohan! I'm just a bit slow on the reaction side these days. But I'm finally catching up. :D

First of all: THANK YOU SO MUCH! You have no idea how many direct messages I sent since the migration to bypass the missing functionality. #faithrestored

Does the mention function get triggered by the technical link to a person's profile or due to some unseen magic invoked by explicitly using @ --> Choosing a profile? I'm asking this because back on the jive platform I used to mention Workflow Goddess, Rechnungsschinken, Security Overlord, etc. You get the idea. ;-P

EDIT: Hey, the post doesn't contain the stuff I actually posted :-O:

EDIT: Hey, the post doesn't contain the stuff I actually posted :-O:

Works as designed (as explained in Don’t Mention It… Oh Wait, Do!):

Note that the system changes the link text to the mentioned member’s username even if you’ve already changed the link text to something else (it does the conversion upon Publish or Submit).

As to your other question - in the same blog there are two options explained for triggering @mention functionality - using the @ symbol or via the link tool.

Are you actually testing whether the behavior of the mention functionality works as advertised? :)

        >>Are you actually testing whether the behavior of the mention functionality works as advertised? :)

No, I'm afraid I'm not that subtle :-P

It's a misunderstanding from my side. I thought the automatic conversion would only take place to override the technical link in textual form, if used via the Button in the Editor. I.e. I thought if I changed that Text manually, it would not be overriden anymore (as it was on the Jive platform). My subsequent question is moot since the text apparently has nothing to do with the link to a person's profile.

        • Sep 15, 2017 at 09:06 AM

Possible workaround: Ask those users if they would change their profile name for you:)

Lukas Weigelt - I raised this scenario in feedback. The links do convert and it was acknowledge that it could confuse or alter some of the blog writing. It's not considered a bug but see if anyone else notices that in their blogging or commentary.

Funny thing - I used a Frankenstein reference just the other day in a CC post.
