Can I/we do this?

I cannot wait for the SAP team to realize that 2800 tags are impractical and that there are people, who don't want to follow any tags, but still need a simple way to navigate.

Instead of ranting or answering repeated questions: "How do I find ....", maybe we can use the excel file with all tags (hopefully the list is complete) and find out what are the URLs for the corresponding tag pages. And then publish all that in a blog (we have no multi-author option anymore, I think).

This is going to be a huge work for a single person and I don't expect that the SAP team will help - otherwise they would have provided the complete information from the start.

Finding the correct tagIDs for 2800 tag names is going to take me many days - I have a day job, which helps me put food on the table, but if others are willing to join me in this effort, we could manage much faster.

Are there any volunteers? Please? This is for the good of all forum members!

One more thing - if I am going to hunt for exotic tagIDs, I will need to create a question, which I will re-tag multiple times.

I really don't wish to add to the moderators' workload by doing that. Does any moderator have objections if I use a single test question for a few days and re-tag it as often as I can find some spare time? I am planning to delete the question after I finish, of course.

I understand your frustration. But personally...? This is supposed to be SAP's tool. It's supposed to be THEIR face to the user and technical community. It should be their responsibiity to have thoroughly tested this under multiple platforms and browsers and versions.

It should be their responsibility to provide proper tags and make known what is available. To use technical product names as primary tags instead of what is used in everyday usage was a travesty in all honesty.

It was like the Beta version given to moderators and users to "test" was the first full prototype of the system. The Beta should have been a whole lot cleaner then it was.

I understand it's a huge job to move a major system like this to a new platform. But guess what.. it's a huge job to move a major business client into SAP for the first time. And if the SAP implementions I've done over the past 20 years had half the issues this has had, I'd wouldn't be employable. Especially in the pharma industry.

PS> Makes me want to go to back to!!

      I understand your frustration. ;)

But having this tag overview available would help us (the users) at the moment a lot. So it's more for us then for SAP.
      • Oct 12, 2016 at 02:02 PM

You're right, but shouldn't SAP have someone to do this for us then?

        • Oct 12, 2016 at 02:06 PM

I'd rather they work further on the bug fixes. ;)

The tag overview page is on the road map, but I don't know if they already started with it and when it will be rolled out. So we could just wait and see or try to help ourselves in the meantime.

You're right, it's on the roadmap and I'll share the info with everyone as soon as it's available to me. The development teams are currently 100% focused on bug fixes, but we will be shifting to new features before long. Thanks all!

    I'll help. Great idea, Veselina!

Or maybe we could create a wiki page for it and everybody can update the tags they've already found there? And if it's complete just link the article? That would be probably easier to extend, too, when new tags emerge.

I didn't even know, that users can re-tag their questions. oO Blogs, yes. But in q&a I thought that was only possible for moderators.

    • Oct 12, 2016 at 01:28 PM

Yes, it is possible (at least for me) to re-tag my own questions. I don't know if this is valid for all user levels.

Posting in a wiki is a better idea than a blog, I didn't know that we can still create wiki pages.

Do you know if such re-tagging will raise moderator's attention to the test question despite of my user level (I think, I am an author, I have 3 blogs migrated already)?

If there were still a Beta/QA site available with the same tags, I could do that there and not pollute anybody's questions list, but I have no access to the SCN QA environment.

@Craig: frustration is not going to change how things are. Yes, I am also not happy with the end results, but this is not why I posted this - I am only trying to help others.

I appreciate the help you are trying to provide. It's amazing how many people give of their time here and knowledge here. And I'm willing to help if I can and I've moderated and contributed quite a bit I think over the years. I've learned a lot through SCN. I don't mind making suggestions, trying to help out and finding a few bugs here and there. But it seems like a lot of things that should have been caught already are being reported. And that there was little thought or testing as to how folks, especially new folks, utilize this day-to-day.

        I'm just very disappointed, (again).

        • Oct 12, 2016 at 02:10 PM

It looks pretty dark right now, yep. But a lot of bugs, that are reported right now, are already known to the team.

Gali wrote a blog post yesterday about this, the main part (for me) being:

          • "Known Issues ListWe are working to publish a known issues list to give you updates on issues like this. We will publish this prominently in the Community for everyone to reference to make it easier to track issues that the technical team is already working to resolve (and that there is no need to re-submit). Please expect this within the next business day or two."
So maybe that will calm people down a bit. There is a lot of noice going on right now, because the same issue is reported time after time.
      • Oct 12, 2016 at 01:48 PM

Your author status for blogs has nothing to do with q&a. ;) I don't know if constant re-tagging triggers something. That's something someone from the team can maybe answer (if they find the time).

Personally I've never created nor edited something in the wiki, so I have nooo idea how and where to do that there (well, the "how" is not the issue). I'd love to mention people I know work with the wiki, but the feature is not there yet. But I could pm one! Ha!

This has potential for up to date gamification:

Oh, Steve is asking the best questions: Lookie here

Maybe we don't need to work through that list... maybe there is an easier way?

    • Oct 12, 2016 at 02:41 PM

If they wanted to share this data, they would have done that already, wouldn't they?

The SAP team has the information, they somehow performed this migration and created the website :)

      • Oct 12, 2016 at 02:50 PM

But if they don't want to share it, our "project" wouldn't be allowed. ^^

I don't know if they thought about including the links in the excel sheet, because maybe they didn't think it would be so hard for us poor users to find the tag pages we want.

Aaaaand that hope died just now:

Hope is not yet beaten! Bill will look into it!

        • Oct 12, 2016 at 03:43 PM

Posting these links is not breaking any of the current ROE.

And in addition to the list we can explain in details how people can generate such links on their own - even if new tags are created and the list is not updated yet.

I can even show how it is possible at the moment to search and filter in sap search by SAP- managed tags (it is not easy, but doable) - this looks useful.

If content, which does not violate any rules and can benefit many forum members, cannot be allowed in SCN, then I'd better start looking harder for greener pastures :)

          • Oct 12, 2016 at 03:47 PM

I was just replying to you:

"If they wanted to share this data, they would have done that already, wouldn't they?"

;) If the info was allowed to be available, they would have given it already. But it looks like I just misunderstood you.

Have you seen my (many) edits? Maybe we don't have to update the list manually. :)

            • Oct 12, 2016 at 04:38 PM

              Yes, I saw the thread.

OK, let's give the SAP team another chance - until the end of the week.

This should be enough to retrieve and publish information, which already exists, even in such huge organization.

  • Oct 12, 2016 at 04:26 PM

    I can help.

  • Oct 12, 2016 at 04:38 PM

    Hi Veselina,

We are working on adding links to the spreadsheet, so hopefully, your efforts here should be unnecessary.
