Give Ceasar what is of Ceasar..

or better, give Jerry Janda what's of Jerry Janda.

He hinted the shout outs / metions would be back and now we have them!

Thanks, Jerry Janda!

(yes the triple mention is a test to see how many notification you get :P )

I like the fact that the default list of names comes from my followed members list, but after typing "@ja" and seeing a few names I didn't recognize, I did a comparison check on my people profile, and apparently the database queries are not the same. When I filter my personal followed members list on people.sap.com using 'ja', I see several overlapping member names from what I see here in the newly release mention feature, however the results do not match...

Gabriella Gogl-Gyorgy - is this a known mismatch?

Hey,

It is actually using the same data, just the sorting order is different and a lot more advanced and complex in the case of mentions (both built by my team). I'd like to ask you to check within your followers too, as your social graph consists of both your followers and followings.

The general rule is, social graph always on top except if there is an exact match for the characters you types outside your graph. E.g. If you search for "Carol", you will see Carols on the top and not Caroleigh Deneen even if she is within your social graph. Otherwise it would be much more difficult to find poor Carols if you are really looking for one.

If it still seems weird after this, let me know.

Best,

Gabi

I guess I will question the level of in-depth testing prior to the release of this feature...initially I was using the statement from the mention dialog box which states "from your FOLLOWED members list", so I initially assumed only the people I am personally following. When I looked closer and used the people profile search with the same 'ga' criteria, I realized it was a distinct combination of both the people I Follow and those who are Following me. This led me to the further confusion of names I did not recognize. Since the people profile categorizes the Followers and Following under the term 'NETWORK', perhaps that would be a better choice of working for the mention dialog - 'Showing results from your network. To search...'

Apologies for the Frankenstein assembly and scribbled numbers on the test elements in my photo editor, but can you account for the 'mention' results shown in the image below?

They are all apparently following me, but not showing in my people.sap.com 'Following Me' list, so the bug in question here is that the mention list is more up to date/accurate than the people profile search results, and the bug is in the people search.

The people search checks the beginning characters of first and last name while the search for the mentions also searches the character sequence within the name. I saw this as a advantage even they are lower ranked at the end of the list.

Ahh, yes I see the pattern now...

Agreed that the prioritized manner in which the mentions are being presented is good. I would request that we further enhance the search on the people page to be consistent. In the case of the people search for following/followers, the list is already limited to just me, so it should always use a wildcard search for any pattern in the name.

Yep, I have it in my back pocket to further enhance the profile follower/following search too, but first I have some bigger plans *evillaugh*, so stay tuned.

And btw Jürgen is correct about the behavior. Like mentioned, doing atmentions was something that we thought brings more value at this moment than the search in the profile, so it is way more advanced.

Aaand Colin Krawchuk Michael Braun could you please double check on the label of the picker?

Always happy to get notifications from you, Simone Milesi -- especially when there is good news to share! :)

And how many notifications did you receive? :)

Well, Veselina Peykova , I could tell you...but why ruin the surprise when you can find out for yourself, Veselina Peykova ?

So you tell me, Veselina Peykova ... how many did you receive?

P.S. Veselina Peykova :D

Just two - one for the direct comment and another for the @mention, which is the desired outcome. :)

Are you saying......

*whisper* no bug so far?

I did not take part in the testing phase, but it looks as if no bugs which break the user experience were reported so far...

If I were you, I would still postpone activating e-mail notifications for @mention for a few days - until the novelty wears off.

Now I really would want to see "the top @-mentioned list". :) Well, the first one would be Juergen, of course, but what about the rest of top 10?

So nobody has tried a self-reference?

Shame on me, Volker Barth, for such anti-social behaviour!

Otherwise, that way I won't be accussed of the excessive name dropping about to come...

Yes, that works as well, good for times when memory may suffer...

Good to know that I can @mention myself. I tend to talk to myself a lot anyway...

In my country there is a saying: "I talk to myself, because I prefer communicating with intelligent human beings."

LOL!

Besides that, self-mentioning may be helpful as workaround to track/follow one's own comments lateron, at least as long as they are not listed in the profile and one has not also posted the according discussion/question/blog or provided an answer there...

I like that. I'm going to start using it. It's much better than my personal saying: "I talk to myself because I have personal issues."
