custom Google Search is indexing already.

Hi All,

http://bit.ly/1dx-find is indexing as we speak, but it seems to be pretty good. Lots of broken links in the results, but as the indexing proceeds, hopefully that will improve. It will take several weeks before it finishes the crawling and will be more fully useful. I will keep checking it. Not sure if the author wants his name associated, but I told him up front I was going to share it around. Waiting for Search to be fixed is like waiting for Godot.

Cheers, Mike

I tried the search, but from what I see, there is no tag information in the result list, only filtering by date and content type. How is this different than onedx.find.sap.com?

Or is it just that Google manages the search relevance part better?

Hi Veselina,

Partly Google manages the search relevance part better. Partly Google actually keys on word combinations (such as Primary Tags in double quotes) that onedx.find.sap.com does poorly if at all. It definitely prioritizes the result set in a more useful order.

Mostly I am simply waiting for the indexing to complete to see if it can be used to help those looking for content (including those reported for FTS). Having used a CGS in the previous environment was a necessity for actually finding the right content. Now if they could fix the Activity Stream, my rating would rise from 1.5 out of 10 to 2.5 out of 10. Obviously I think they have a long, long way to go. But we had to go live yesterday regardless of lack of testing, huge functional deficiencies, broken blog migration, etc.

Cheers, Mike

Ahaa, now I understand :)

In the old SCN I alternated between the two searches (find.sap.com had an option to filter by forum space, but it was not nicely implemented).

I will definitely try to use the primary tags in the search criteria in CGS... we just need a few more days to get some meaningful results.

The funny part is that the old find.sap.com that I used in the old platform, is a good option for searching in the archived content by forum space (because of the redirects). It does not work for all results, because the indexing is not done, but have a look:

https://find.sap.com/s#n=1&f=SOURCE%3Asap%20community%20network%20%28scn%29%2BFILETYPE%3ADiscussions%2BCOMMUNITY%3ASAP%20S%2F4HANA&t=%22condition%20contract%22&p=scn&repo=srh

Settlement Management : Condition Contract with link http://scn.sap.com/thread/3923074 redirects to

https://archive.sap.com/discussions/thread/3923074, which is absolutely fine :)

I know, this won't work for new content, but most of the useful data now is archived. If we can only keep this for a few weeks until this CGS manages to index all data, things will be much better.

What Jason Lax told me was that the new search should contain both the old Jive based results and the new ones. So stuff that has not been updated should return those results while the migrated stuff is updated. I will have to dust off my old CGS and compare results with the new one.

I guess I never understood why anyone would ever use the former SCN search as I would refine my CGS if I got too many results. But Juergen Lins and you have both used it previously, so I guess I have to accept that some people (respected heavy duty SCN users) found value in it.

Thanks, Mike

As with the old SCN, I think it cannot hurt to have more than one search being at hand. ^^
