Can we start calling it "SAP Community"?

Having this new Community here is new, exciting and confusing already, but to me it gets really messy when people start referring to it with terms like "new SCN".

I think Gali made it clear in the blog https://blogs.sap.com/2016/10/10/welcome-new-sap-community-welcome-home/ that the new name is "SAP Community" - can we call it by this name, please?

    No? :(

Why would we change from a name that has a ton of recognition to a name only those who don't know much about SCN could love?

      Hey Steffi,

I am with you. Keep it as SCN which actually has some street cred!

      Cheers, Mike

PS where is the dislike button? I thought we could vote up AND down on content.

Only questions and answers. This is a discussion. As for blogs, there is only the Like. ;)

        Thanks for the support!

I really wish to keep the 'networking' part of the name - after some time we will get status updates and maybe after some time it will be easier to understand the followed activity page.

There has been too much SAP product renaming already - please, I am an old person and still I use terms like Firefighter, which most of my colleagues remember and understand :)

Yes, Firefighter = Craig. Easy. :)

      • Oct 17, 2016 at 01:39 PM

Still wish I could use Firefighter.. but I am resurrecting my original profile pic.

          Rescue Dog is back!

Your id still is Firefighter, so depending on how the mention system will work, maye we'll call you writing @firefighter. ;) Hope dies last.

Check again..went back to my original, original pic.

I'll bring back Meadow later on sometime.

It still shows as @firefighter in my profile.

            Craig

if the cloud for you is still a thing that blocks the sun from shining on you, you can call it SCN... as I do :)

If they had just left it as the SAP Developer Community and gotten rid of the points only, then everything would have been fine - and that a long time ago already..

SDN implies that it is just for developers; renaming the forum to SCN at least made some sense for the functional consultants.

Renaming SCN to "SAP Community" I see as just a re-branding for now... we will wait and see in a few years if the new name will become popular - if the site manages to attract many new members, renaming might work in a few years, if not - people will still call it SCN :)

I still call it SDN. Just kidding...

"SAP Community" sounds broader than "SAP Community Network" for me, like "SAP Community Network" meaning everybody that is really using this community and "SAP Community" meaning everybody that works with SAP solutions and may not use the online community (tools/whatever).

Also, renaming stuff may be confusing. I can imagine myself telling my colleagues at the office "Hey, you may find the answer to your problem at SAP Community" - for sure the person will be puzzled with this terms - as he/she is used with other terms like SCN/SDN/Localization Forum(an old Brazilian-specific forum for SAP Localization).

@Veselina, I still call it Firefighter as well.

Well, the SAP Community is bigger than what happens here. There's a whole lot of SAP community happening over on Twitter and more that happens in the many in-person events that happen around the world and through the year. This is a big and important piece of the SAP Community, but not the only piece.

Just my 2p (or 2c - they're about the same thing these days...)

Joachim, please edit the link. Right now, the link redirects to https://answers.sap.com/articles/create.html instead: https://blogs.sap.com/2016/10/10/welcome-new-sap-community-welcome-home/

I still see it called "SAP Community Network" all over the place on the "new" site now. For example, look at the content on the "karma" explanation page. It calls it that in many place for example "These counters are used to provide an objective summary of your activities on the SAP Community Network." .....so I still call it SCN and/or "SAP Community Network" interchangably.

    • Oct 17, 2016 at 11:37 AM

I don't care what anybody says. It will always be SCN to me.

      • Oct 18, 2016 at 11:58 AM

        Hey Steffi,

Me too! It is also amusing how many places are still using the SCN reference.

        • Oct 18, 2016 at 12:01 PM

Probably hard to go find them all, when so much else is to do. ^^ I have so many input for pages that need updates (old screenhots, missing info etc), but the team knows this probably, just needs more arms and time.

Well, it's SAP so renaming is kind of their thing. People kept calling BW as "BW or BI or whatever" after SAP tried to rename it to BI. Now it's back to BW. Bwahaha.

By the way, I still had a bookmark for scn.sap.com labeled as "New SDN" in my browser since 2012. :)
