The rage is real.

Dear Gentlemen and gentle women of the coffee corner,

I'm writing this with an assumed blood pressure far beyond 180. Yes, you guessed it! It's another rant about the Community platform (how boring and predictable, isn't it?)!

So, since the communication channels (@mentioning, activity feed/stream) are FUBAR (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FUBAR_(disambiguation) in case you don't know the well-fitting term), I've resorted to using direct messaging with my "inner circle" (following/follower). Unfortunately, the platform apparently is not able to distinguish which messages I already read and which one's I haven't read yet plus, funnily enough, the status of these messages is randomly reset every time I log onto the platform resulting in a random amount of assumedly old messages displayed as "unread". Imagine you have a list with approximately 400-500 record sets and a field flagging whether you have processed the record set already and every time you open the list there's like a function that's setting an X into each field with a chance of 50/50.

Alright, so, to cool down, I check my subforums to see if there's any moderation to be done and, oh joy, the "plz kindly do needful very urgently"-fraction was busy today! So, I'm tring to flag the respective threads for moderation, but upon clicking "alert moderator" literally nothing happens- I could click that button all day.

No problemo, there's still some research to be done. Thankfully google still exists, subsequently I find some archived SCN-content which is mapping explanations to sap-help-links, as it should be, so there's no redundant information inside the blogs. Unfortunately the help-links are all dead after the help-portal-migration and the search terms have changed so the needed information is not retrievable.

OK, to blow off some steam, I now wanted to create a Status Update to rant, which I haven't done for quite some time, but I can't; there's no option for me to do so.

Can somebody PLEASE just create a simple PHP-Bulletin-Board? %&!"&%$§"

EDIT/P.S.: I can't even format this rant the way I want to, because the editor is FUBAR too...

Naww. Coffee Corner is always there for you. No joke too lame or rant too repetitive. ;)

Motion to replace the button "Like" with "I feel your pain" in Coffee Corner. It's not that I actually like that you're having these problems. But there is no other mechanism to express solidarity.

Shouldn't be too hard to just change some text, right?

Considering it took years to rename "Report abuse" as "Alert moderator" I guess not. :)

Maybe if we involve Jerry...?

Sure! There's plenty of pain to go around, and everyone knows I'm SAP Community's favorite masochist. :)

Since there are a few issues/items here (moderation, direct messaging), I'm going to try to loop in the right experts.

As for the "I feel your pain" option, I already assume that "like" is synonymous with this...at least in Coffee Corner and anything tagged "using SAP.com." :-/

Do not worry, they fixed the issue

*hide in a corner and bang the wall with my head*

i tried in past days to come back but... seriously, am i such a thorn in the sides to put a bug after another to discourage me?

Now now, don't be greedy. The bugs are there for everyone, not just you. ;)

How about I donate some of my web space and people use notepad to type their posts.

Then use FTP to stick it up on the web. I'll make sure the FTP account goes to Private instead of Http_Docs then we won't even be able to find them with google.

Got to be better than this ???

There's always that place for the tuly idiots. ;-)

True, but all the tuly idiots appear to have defected over here, or have gone into stasis.....

And a place of legends it is, tuly. I'm a little disappointed, though, that there isn't, let's say, a Haiku or a medieval bard song or the like narrating of the Heroes of old ;-).... so here you go!

♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫

Four gurus had gathered, evermore known as the tuly idiots...

One of them a knight with a holy sword, bringing order into chaos with an iron fist, Doc
One of them a knight whose heart was stolen in the conquest of the needful, conquerer of the forums, Rich
One of them a sorcerer, a fountainhead of knowledge, the great Historian of the fanclub, Vlozano
One of them a cleric, a protector of the balance, a priest, his name, Snowy

♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫

P.S. Might be I forgot some, since I haven't been around that long yet ;-)

The post has gone now, but there was an entry in a french language website asking what Tuly Idiot was a translation or contraction of....it got that far. I had to put them right....

Regards.

Rich. (Yep... That one....)

Rosie, Sandi, Bryson, Matt... Some things become memories. We had even a page in the wikipedia, but some moderator decided we were not -yet- important enough to be kept there.

Luckily for us, our master plan to rule the world is based on the annoynimity.

Wow, this took me on an interesting journey

https://tulyidiots.wordpress.com/2007/02/14/the-true-history-about-the-origin-of-the-tuly-idiots/

I joined Sapfans September 2003, I just logged in (Last visited:Thu May 28, 2009 1:10 pm, yikes!) to check if maybe this was before my time, but no, probably flew over the radar.

I'm pretty sure I saw you around.

"Mitali do as all we do: PM Rich and be sure you have a PayPal account."

Hey Lukas,

Thank you for sharing your pain.

Are you still having issues with the "Alert moderator" button? I didn't notice anything.

Regards,

Moshe

Yes I do :-(, though it might be that the cause is that something is blocked within the managed environment I work in. We got IE11, which already crashes upon opening the forums and FF ESR 52 with which I can partially work on the forums, though I can't "Alert Moderators", can't create a Status update and the Editor (like that one I'm currently writing in) crashes upon posting with a chance of 50/50.

I use IE11, too and it works for me. Which version are you on?

on exactly the same >_<

Meh. :/

I also use FF ESR 52 (Windows 7, 32-bit) as a secondary browser and I have no problems with Alert Moderator popup. I have not experienced browser crashes for months.

What you describe, could be also some incompatible add-on, or about:config setting, or corrupt browser profile or additional restrictions set by your administrators.

Hi Lukas,

Moshe is out of office at the moment so I'm trying to assist here. I've talked to IT and it is suggested to check other browsers if the same issue occurs. I am not aware of other users who are affected the same way as you. What Veselina wrote might be the case, but until now this issue is of unknown reason. Please also check if your browser configuration prevents actions to perform correctly. Let me know what you experience and I report back to IT. Thanks and sorry for your invconvenience.

Best, Mynyna

Hey Mynyna / Veselina,

thanks for caring! Seems it is only me then :-(. It probably is some configuration of our managed environment which I have no influence on. Unfortunately I can't try out any other browsers, since the managed environment prevents me from downloading and/or installing any software. The only thing I was able to do, is, capturing a JavaScript error in Firebug:

I don't have any Addons available, so that can't be the root cause. I also cleared the cache to no avail and had FF reinstalled by our helpdesk for lack of a better idea.

What pains me the most is, that it worked for me initially after the 1DX-Migration, so either some patch on "SCN" caused this or some changed Configuration in our environment did...

Meh. :-(

The popup that I get in Firefox, looks different, mine has stuff in it :(

I have a few messages in the console, which I attribute to the default FF protection, but even with the strict list applied I don't see the error, which you posted. Maybe there is indeed some additional filtering (protection) done in your network, as you suspect, but it does not work as an add-on.

Have you tried to check if you can see something like "modal-body" or "prompt-examples" when you inspect the popup with the inspector tool? I don't suppose that anyone would mess with userContent.css on purpose, but the only way I could get a popup, looking like yours, was to set .modal-body {display: none} in the browser itself or play with the visibility settings for the elements in it, or block elements via other means. I find it weird that these are not shown at all in your case...

Does the same problem occur on a different (company-managed) laptop? Maybe you can ask a colleague to check and if it works there - to start comparing settings. SCN not working is bad enough, but IE crashing is something to worry about.

It's the same on other devices. My colleagues can reproduce the problems, but they don't care much, since they don't use SCN.

"Fun" Fact: The Modal-Body element of Modal-In-Prompt is empty (on my side).

What we do in these cases: Let the user test on another machine. If it works there, it's the local profile most of the time. Re-fresh that and all is well.

Poor Lukas... volunteer mod on this hell.

Can somebody PLEASE just create a simple PHP-Bulletin-Board? %&!"&%$§"

This is not a board, or a forum, or similar.

This is SAP, run simple ;)

Yeah, I remember the commercials. Can we please add "abandon all hope, ye who enter here"?
