"What we've got here is failure to communicate"

"What we've got here is failure to communicate." There seems to be some confusion on the definition of communication. It was a reference in Why oh Why made by Sajid regarding wireframes and Hi Fi's, which started me thinking on the subject of communications.

Communications according to Merriam-Webster, https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/communication:

3.a. process by which information is exchanged between individuals through a common system of symbols, signs, or behavior the function of pheromones in insectcommunication; also: exchange of information

When the information flow is one directional and considered insufficient by the receiving party, is the receiving party the one at fault for the flawed communications? Doubtful...

So his comment to Veselina: "Still on the radar Veselina! You should know about this from your exposure to the new wires and hifis! Details are being refined and will be shared when available." is a bit disingenuous. Since the wires [wireframes] had no detailed definition and all four were crammed into a single slide, it is a lot of hand waving with little information actually being communicated. The HIFIs were even less useful since they are a work in progress, too early to share for detailed feedback yet.

With so much high level visibility on this SAP Community Take 2, you would think that having experienced community members (most of whom are Mentors and Moderators) of the Strategic Advisory Council provide input at the earliest possible points in the design would be, you know, advisable? Instead, we get a lot of hand waving and no details into which of the existing problems the new design is going to address.

Now that I think about it, this is pretty much the same process that brought us the SAP Community Take 1. We will get what they give us and have very little input to what is actually needed. "We have received your input, now go away and let us do the work".

Hope that turns out better for the community than it did for Luke.

Next up is the definition of collaboration...

Oh gosh! Is it possible to put in a better way?

No, it isn't.

Sadly no ear will listen, choosing just to hear.

Well, if I may generalize that's just a continuation of the whole "Shut up And Pay" mentality SAP is so famous for. Am I disappointed it persists? Of course. But am I surprised? No.

In the cases where SAP came to their senses and were able to reconsider, they were either in danger of financial loss or jeopardizing their customer base. And it takes a huge uproar from the community, user groups, Mentors, etc.

Otherwise it's "our Design is the bestest design ever, even if it doesn't make any sense it's still The Design because we said so" and "we picked the best of breed platforms for SCN and this will give us the most cuttingiest edge community ever, so we are going live by TechEd ready or not".

Of course, there are always a few voices of reason but it's just a drop in the bucket. Hmm, I think I already wrote about this, probably in the previous life. :)

Is it really still "Best of Breed" if you chop off its limbs right after you get it? ^^ It's like buying a Greyhound and then shorten its legs, because you only want a dachshund.

I'm guessing you meant "limbs"...although I'm sure the poor doggy would be limping after that particular operation. :-/

Yep. One time I'm not checking in the dictionary, one time! ;)
