    Happy Women's Day!

Women Strike | March 8th, 2017 | Join Us | Anyone strike / march / protest? I know my mother and her team definitely did not at Womens Center India - she couldn't tell her patients to hold their babies for another day :)

I couldn't take a day off work to fully participate in A Day Without a Woman but I'll have my own mini-version later in the day when my husband and kid will have to do all the chores while I binge-watch The Good Wife in a red robe. :)

:) sounds like a good half end of Women's Day for you! Your flowers really did brighten the day, since they were the only ones I got, and those tulips make me look forward for spring to come (It is raining everyday this week...soo ugly grey and wet outside) So, thank you! :)

It's interesting how different this day is celebrated around the world. A good Ukrainian friend told me that this day is super important for her and her mum and for all women in the Ukraine. They send each other beautiful bunches of flowers, every mom, sister, aunt, daughter, just every single woman gets a treat! We don't have this tradition in Germany (as far as I know).

I think it depends on the region. Where I come from (North-Eastern Germany) we don't do this either.

I can confirm that this is a major holiday in Russia and most of the exUSSR. We did not have Mother's Day / Father's Day like some other counties. March 8th was in general celebrated as Women's Day and February 23rd as Men's day (official name was the Soviet Army Day). In Latvia, after it split from the USSR, February 23rd mostly lost its meaning and government tried to replace March 8th with the Mother's Day. But people still stubbornly celebrate it (which makes sense in the country with steadily declining birth rates, cough).

On March 8th, all women usually get flowers and men are supposed to take care of the household chores. Unfortunately, this sometimes ended with more cleanup for women on March 9th. :)

Initially Women's Day was planned on 6th March...

But women took 2 days to get ready, That's how it got postponed to 8th March!!!

Men's day was also planned...But as usual, they forgot the date!!!
