[Status update] More disappointments

I think the site HELP.SAP.COM was the most visited in terms of official documentation.

Why did something static, fast, and functioning well, become "migrated" to something new, bad and malfunctioning?

I can not believe they touched the SAP help!

Very disappointed.

Not only broke everything that was the SCN, the wiki, the old "", but now they also break the !?

Can the SAP web team please stop testing?

Great news, more dead links to come!

At least they kept an access to the legacy help site =>

  • Mar 02, 2017 at 02:42 PM

Same Narrow site design, and total lake of testing.

Just tried to check the new features : 403: You don’t have rights to view this page.

    • Mar 02, 2017 at 03:28 PM

Hmm, did you get that popup via the little megaphone on the top right? That works for me. But you also have the magnifying glass and that one I don't have.

      I'm confused. oO

  • Mar 02, 2017 at 02:46 PM

Is it bad and malfunctioning? I have not used it since it changed, but just now searched for the IDM documentation and the overview page looks good to me. You can even change to a list view (the old structure wasn't really easy to navigate IMO).

What would be nice, since I can login, if I could bookmark the pages I'm most interested in and they would appear in "my" homepage. But maybe that's still to come.

The homepage is really really uncluttered, so I like that.

What are you missing? More than "This is how it works", "Search here" and "Support here". what else do you need? :)

    • Mar 02, 2017 at 03:08 PM

I've had numerous problems. Most notable is that searching is spotty. It doesn't appear to work at all in the BusinessObjects pages:

There are also many, many dead links.

      • Mar 02, 2017 at 03:18 PM

Searching for "IDM" does not bring results for me either, but "Identity" does. So no shortcuts (yet?).

But searching for "businessobjects" shows me a whole lot of results. Even while typing. Trying the same as in your screenshot I get results. Buuut I'm logged in and you're not.

EDIT: I just tried the same as anonymus and got the same result as you: not result. ^^

So it looks like you can't find the documents if you're not logged it. IMO that's not good and I can't imagine that's on purpose.

        • Mar 02, 2017 at 03:38 PM

Ok, I'll try logging on, although I agree that shouldn't matter.

          Oh, wait....

          • Mar 02, 2017 at 04:48 PM

So... I can now get to, but I'm unable to log in. Clicking the log in button just refreshes the page.

And most links result in a "Service Unavailable" page.

For a week or so, I have been really trying to like the new site with very little success. To me, has never been particularly useful in terms of direct navigation - I relied on its search capabilities. It took a bit of time to learn how to use the old search, but once I got the idea, it was quite easy and efficient. Now, after a week of trying, I am not convinced that the solution is even comparable to the legacy functionality.

    • Language filters: there is English (United States of America) and en-EN ... this is probably due to adding content from additional sources and not taking care of that during migration. As there is no way to select more than a single entry - how do I know when to choose En-EN over English (United States of America)? Not to mention, that in the result list you see the results for English (United States of America) as en-US. Why can't the list be simply EN (English), DE (Deutsch), RU (Русский), TR (Türkçe)? There is already a standard for language codes: ISO 639-1, most people know about it in one way or another, no need to reinvent the wheel. And the single option for language is funny if you happen to speak more than one... #justsaying

By the way, don't be fooled by the language code in the result list - sometimes you get content in English, only the title bar is translated.

    • Product filters: I hate to admit it in public, but after so many years working with SAP, I am lost in the search product bar. Where do I look for information on Advanced Returns Management in S/4? Should I try out S/4HANA or S/4HANA Overview or what exactly?

*** Spoiler alert*** None of these options works - it was SAP S/4HANA Finance.

I know, I am old-fashioned.. I kind of prefer to see something like S/4 SD or S/4 MM or at least S/4 Logistics. If I have never used or read about the functionality, the product filters won't help me much, because I have no idea what they mean. What might be useful, if these product filters would be the only possible option to narrow down the results, is to show as a tool-tip a short description what this product is about. Also, if I have already specified a search criteria, it makes sense to show in the drop-down only the products, which are already returned in the search result. This can't be that hard to implement, right? But it makes a lot of difference to the end user. And to the correctness of the result allocation - how did Customizing for Advanced Returns Management - SAP Documentation end up being in SAP S/4HANA Finance and in HR Renewal? I know that everything I do in SD, impacts other areas, but how there is not a single result that clearly says Logistics? I am also curious how the site decides which product to display by default when the same result is found for several products (you have to click to expand the list, yikes) - I could not find any logic behind.

    • Error messages: I get them a lot. All kinds of errors, starting from basic things like 'Secure Connection Failed', left or right page frame failing to load or loading with errors in all my browsers, some links lead to the landing page. I used to get some weird logon errors (3-4 at a time) for being logged on in a different tab and that I have to reload the page (which resulted in the same errors), which I am glad, that got fixed.
    • Search result quality - I was surprised that a search for "Расширенная обработка возвратов" (which is part of the title of an existing SAP help page in Russian) resulted in a completely unrelated page "Обработка платежных поручений" at the top, a few pages in English, French and German for "Processing Payment Orders", a page for payments in English, which failed to load any of the actual content, a page in Japanese (I am not sure what it was about, but the page layout looked similar to an English page for outgoing payments. If I actually search for the full page name "Расширенная обработка возвратов (LO-ARM).", I would get nothing. I have thought that the page name should be a reasonable search criteria... obviously, I was wrong. So what is a good search criteria then?
    • Formats: Why are formats considered so important, that they deserve a multiple-choice option, while some more obvious choices, like content type or content source, are missing? I am not very concerned whether the content is in html or html5 or even pdf or rtf, as long as I am able to view it.

What part of sap help exactly is migrated now? Some of my old bookmarks are redirected to the legacy help pages, some load without the navigation frame (I am sure that this is not how I saved them)... Is this sap help site in some early alfa version?

If yes - how do I get the search from the legacy site to work? Because if I search from there, I get a blank page:☆tindex=1&filter=scm_a_site%28scm_v_Site10%29&filter=scm_a_modDate%28*%29&timeScope=all

If I try my old search engines for sap help search:☆tindex=1&filter=scm_a_site%28scm_v_Site10%29&filter=scm_a_language%28scm_v_lang01%29
    I get this:

I would appreciate any good tips on how to use the new site more efficiently - so far, I have not managed to get it to accept multiple S/4HANA versions or multiple products by modifying the search URL.

    • Mar 02, 2017 at 06:54 PM

I was just posting a comment on this but, of course, it disappeared as soon as I clicked Submit. Agree completely on languages and search. I've tried ABAP 7.4 just for the giggles:

Don't know why it's US English and no other English versions. Just use the same codes as within SAP ERP.

Also - on the homepage there is immediately "Watch the video to learn more about the new SAP Help Portal" (yeah, because Masters degree in CS cannot prepare you for cutting edge stuff like this).

When will SAP learn from their mistakes? One would think that after Support Launchpad and then SCN there should be plenty of "lessons learned". Noooo, we'll just march ahead. [BOOM!] Huh? What was that? Who left this rake here?!!!! #facepalmslap

If I just could give you a like per bullet point, Veselina

    • Mar 03, 2017 at 08:07 AM

I like your bullet points, even though they are so small-font, that I was about to zoom in my browser. -.-

      • Mar 03, 2017 at 08:22 AM

Now this is surprising... I don't think that I did anything special to get a smaller font... I am not even sure that it looked like that yesterday. I seems, that the SAP team is using the live system instead of the QA environment again... I am not even disappointed anymore... I've passed that stage months ago.

By the way, have you noticed that your 'M' sign is positioned differently in regular answers and in Coffee Corner? And this is not browser-dependent, neither it is related to screen size. :)

QA testing is for the foolish mortals... cool people test in PRD or don't test at all...

        • Mar 03, 2017 at 08:27 AM

Yep and it's a different M, right? I've noticed seeing it under the names in q&a. I think the smaller font comes with the bullet points "format".

I comment on a comment of Julius some minutes ago and had the same small font for the whole text. After editing it to mention it, the takes was back to normal comment size. I don't know what's happining, but I think we're back to beta testing without knowing it. ^^

Also "See more comments" eats all the comments in some instances now.

OMG.. M here is an SVG file whereas M in regular answers is tiny png file. So not 1DX.

    • Mar 03, 2017 at 02:06 PM

I agree that the old was not a ingenious design either. But, the new one is much worse. Just as an example, I tried to find basic documentation on Funds Management in English. After 10 minutes of trying and getting various results, from CRM integration with PSM/FM to documentation on specific functions in FM in German language, I gave up! :(

  • Mar 02, 2017 at 07:12 PM

Now is not working again for not latest version of Business Planning and Consolidation! For version 10.1 I am able to browse help, but for 10:

    Why Application help is "locked"??????????????????

When I press the link I have:

I am really tired to be a beta tester!

Yay! I can log in now and search.

But apparently only for non-English results:

Tried to update the incident that I had opened but this, but....

I think this is because they need to manage permission in the resourses, check:

Gets 404 error... and need that info for "carousel" input.

          "status": "404",
          "message": "No content found"

Maybe SAP web developers need to debug using Chrome dev tools ;)

      • Mar 03, 2017 at 02:27 PM

"Maybe SAP web developers need to debug". Period! :)

Or maybe, those who decide on redesigning perfectly working sites, at least from user's perspective, should invest more in the content and not in the form.

      • Mar 03, 2017 at 06:10 PM

Or maybe the developers and the internal beta-testers could just look at the red popup box, which appears with the text:

403: You don’t have rights to view this page.

Or to start testing with different users/network/browser combinations?

    • Mar 03, 2017 at 03:35 PM

Reminds me of "look at all the f*s I give" memes. :) Sorry, couldn't resist!

    • Mar 06, 2017 at 01:20 PM

You have to log out in order to see the What's New documentation.

You have to log in in order to use search on some pages.

      • Mar 06, 2017 at 06:03 PM

Haha, now I see what you're talking about! When you log in you get an authorization error but every Joe and Jane can see it without logging in.

I never logged in to Help (does it open some secret pages?) and barely found the tiny lock button that for some reason represents "login". Jeez Louise...

        • Mar 06, 2017 at 06:12 PM

I'm assuming the idea is if you're not logged on you're not supposed to see links for documents on But it's totally f'd up right now.

  • Mar 06, 2017 at 02:16 PM

Looks like some changes were made over the weekend. At least the favicon has changed to the standard SAP logo and no longer leaves an impression that SAP Help is some kind of Masonic lodge.

By the way, here is a link with information on submitting bug reports and general feedback:

    • Mar 06, 2017 at 04:28 PM

What? No "SAP One" single link to report issues? ;-)

Out of curiosity I wonder how many places there are to report bug issues, suggestions and feedback for the world of internet sites.

      • Mar 06, 2017 at 05:16 PM

Funny thing - the component that we're supposed to use to report Help bugs (EPM-DFA-KM-CP) does not exist:

So uhm... do we report this as a content issue? And for a moment I thought SAP was serious about requesting feedback on this. Oh well...

P.S. Another funny thing - when opening an incident I'm required to chose an SAP installation. How does that make sense? Launchpad or Help portal problems have nothing to do with the customer's installations.

        component.jpg (24.3 kB)
        • Mar 06, 2017 at 05:46 PM

I was advised to use UA-CP. Although I haven't heard anything on my incident since 2/27.

Maybe you can open an incident to report an issue with an incorrect component on the support page?

          • Mar 06, 2017 at 06:16 PM

I used the feedback form, opening an incident seems like way too much trouble. Let's find out if anyone reads the feedback...

          • Mar 06, 2017 at 07:29 PM

Maybe you need to raise an incident about incident? :-)

        • Mar 06, 2017 at 06:09 PM

What about using the contact us link from the page, which you have found, and use option 'Other'?

Somebody might be checking for this feedback...

I still don't understand why we still need to choose components and stuff when creating messages... shouldn't this be handled by the clever bots?

          • Mar 06, 2017 at 06:14 PM

I was able to contact Ochmanek, Natalie using "contact us" link... Got a reasonable reply!

          • Mar 06, 2017 at 06:53 PM

Veselina - I shared link to this thread with people "in-charge" of the "improved" help portal. Hope they are reading and making adjustments.

          • Mar 06, 2017 at 07:12 PM

I had tried the Contact Us form but it kept failing. After some testing, I discovered it was something in the text I was trying to submit... A simple one-line message went through.
