Have you noticed the new search in SAP Community?

Now, when you use this giant search box or the smaller search box hidden behind the magnifying glass, that you see in all major pages in SAP Community...

you can finally filter by content type and tag!

The nice part is that if you start your search from a specific tag page, e.g. All questions in SD (Sales and Distribution), the content type (Q&A) and the tag are pre-selected.

Well, there are a few things that I have not figured out - how to use the tags as an AND and not just as an OR via the UI (finally we have multiple selection without the need of creating manually the search string by yourself). Luckily, the OR option still works when you use ~ between the tags.

The search is still work-in-progress (or so it seems) and I really hope that there will be some option in the future to include the results from the wiki pages, but it is a big improvement compared to the previous solution.

I just wanted to say "thank you".

It is still too early for me to decide when I will use Startpage/DuckDuckGo, etc. and when SAP Community search, but it is better to have more options (especially for indexing).

Glad you're liking it so far, Veselina. If you're looking to learn more about the improved search functionality, there's an entry in What's New that explains options:

    Kind regards,

Nice! Since I never use the community search, I didn't know what I could do with it.

The extra features sound really awesome.

Sorry to say but as far as quality of the results goes, Google continues to outperform the SCN search by a mile.

Specific example: try searching in Google for "custom field ORDERS05". I know there is an answered question on this because I asked and answered myself many years ago. :) If I search on Google, it's 5th link from the top.

Searching on SCN for the same string with "ABAP Development" tag and Q&A filter - it's not even on the first page. Most of the top finds using SCN search are not even relevant. Google knows more about IDocs than SAP Community website, apparently.

I use a combination of Google, DuckDuckGo and the site search, but it depends on what I am looking for, no perfect solution :)

The site search is not good with fuzzy search or synonyms, which is probably why your question was not ranked high in the list.

Thanks for the information. I didn't realize that the search was improved recently until my search via Google did not return one of my answers posted 4 days ago. But the SAP Search returned it. Search tried:

    TCPL Toshiba

Now I know that SAP Search is a valid option.

    Bravo SAP !
