Would like to have those badges (Bronze/Silver/Gold/Platinum...) back along with the display name.

Hello All,

As evident with the heading of this discussion. I would like to suggest SAP Forum's Team to introduce those badges back which used to display alongside with the username and show the level of contributions made by the individual.

I am with this forum from 2011 and I have witnessed its journey from SDN->SCN->Upgraded version of SCN->answers.sap.com/blogs.sap.com.

What I am really missing in this current version are those badges, even though we have karma credits. But those medals were like 'Medal of Honor' of this community for me and it really boosted my involvement factor into this forum. Presently we have badges for Moderators and likewise categories, but am pretty much sure there are many like me who have Karma credits but are missing those medal badges.

If anyone else agrees please do comment and share your thoughts.

Thanks,

Sijin

An "official" answer would probably come from Audrey Stevenson or Caroleigh Deneen, but I think this is at least part of the reason behind the new "missions". It can be too easy to game the system with Karma Points, so I doubt that will ever be used for status stuff. However, the "Solver" and "Blogger" series of missions have multiple levels and can be used to show the same types of experience as the old levels.

I, too, was frustrated when they originally went away, especially since I had less than 700 points to go to reach Diamond. But at this point I'm very satisfied with the Solver missions where I reached "Grand Master Solver" earlier this year. I also like the monthly "Diligent Solver" missions for this.

The major difference at this point is that someone has to actually go to your profile to see which missions you've completed - it doesn't automatically show up next to your name.

"The major difference at this point is that someone has to actually go to your profile to see which missions you've completed" - this is the key thing! Only few users will open profile...

P.S. Unfortunately, there is nothing above "Grand Master Solver" :)

I know there is nothing above Grand Master, but the monthly "Diligent Solver" missions do the trick for me!

        rightly said!

      that's really sad :(

I still feel bad for those medals getting removed because those were really hard earned over the time :)

These monthly badges don't really cut it for me too much. I'm just in a specific area that doesn't get enough people closing questions and marking them as answered to get any where. In your area in the past 30 days you answered 82 questions. 15 accepted. (18%). For the last 365 days you answered 745 with 189 accepted. (25%)

I was only had 39 that could be answered in the last 30 days and have had 5 accepted. (13%). For the last 365 days, 53 accepted of 334 (16%). November shows that I'm up to 83% on the November badge.... so maybe I have an outside chance this month!! But only 4 days to go!!!

I would say that on average across the system about 1 in 6 questions are closed with an answer accepted.

Even though I check in most days, and have been for years, (I did reach emerald), I'll probably never get a monthly badge because QM simply doesn't generate the number of questions. We only have 33 questions created in November so far. (I monitor 5 tags)

In SAP Crystal Reports for instance, where you are active, they had 121 created so far in Nov. (if I counted right)

I'm working on master solver.. only about 66 more accepted answers needed! I might get that by maybe by May of next year? :-)

There are only certain areas I think that generate the number of questions that allow someone to reach those monthly badges. It's the downside of being a specialist in a niche area. In QM in Nov so far we've had 7 accepted answers, I had 4 of them. Getting 25 even upvoted is unlikely.

It might be nice to have some way of evaluating the smaller niche areas for people that keep them going. As opposed to say MM, SD, ABAP, etc...

        :(

I hear you. In the old system, when they were identifying "Topic Leaders", there are a couple of areas in addition to SAP Crystal Reports where I was definitely one of the top people answering, but there wasn't enough traffic to award the title - places like SAP BusinessObjects .NET SDK and the same for the Java SDK.

I like the badges and recognition because, as a consultant, it's something I can point to to quickly gain credibility with potential new clients. However, even without the badges and stuff, I would still be answering questions because mentoring and providing information like this is something I love doing.

Me too. I enjoy the challenges and I feel I learn by doing this. It also helps me keep up to date and keeps me from forgetting about functionality that I might not use for years. So I don't do it for the badges or anything.

If people closed their questions properly it wouldn't even be an issue. I really wish SAP would limit people to 2 or 3 open questions at a time.

They will start posting in Coffee Corner :)

Other than that - I fully agree with you, don't do it for badges. There are still some good questions posted these days that make you dig a bit more into how the system works, they are just a lot harder to find.

I like that idea but i saw somewhere that it was removed for a reason because of people taking advantage of it (not exactly sure what was it)..

Probably they shouldn't show karma points and just display Top Contributors for the month in the initial page will do the job?

BTW, Upgraded version of SCN is now called as SAP Community (https://community.sap.com/)

    • Nov 25, 2019 at 04:35 AM

      Hi Mahesh,

First thanks for posting your views.

it was removed for a reason because of people taking advantage of it (not exactly sure what was it)..

I really can't even think what advantage people can take from those Contributor level badges which cannot be taken using Karma credits. Actually both are same right ?

      Karma credits symbolized visualizations were those Medals ( Bronze = 250+ , Silver = 500+ etc. ).

There are many like me for sure who can't contribute beyond a limit and cannot earn the similar tags like Moderators, 'SAP Champion' etc. which as of now shows along with the user name. But for me ( at least ) those medals along with the username also made me felt really honored and a worthy member of this forum :)

      Thanks,

      Sijin

      • Nov 25, 2019 at 10:09 AM

not sure Champion, moderators .. are linked with the number of "points"

For me points is not reflectling your activity in the forum. it was possible to earn a lot of points with a simple blog rather than answering a lot of questions

      • Nov 26, 2019 at 07:26 AM

:) I guess those are just the premium medals those influencers get. It should be nice for active contributors to get them maybe like I said, the top active contributors(for the month) get those badges and be with them for a month, visible next to ur profile pic and if we are not active, it will be removed automatically. I think it should be good right?

        • Nov 26, 2019 at 09:36 AM

Having the current diligent solver badge shown in responses next to the profile picture will also show that the member is quite active. This is helpful information in my opinion. And yes, it can be a nice motivation for badge collectors :)

          • Nov 26, 2019 at 12:44 PM

Yeah exactly, active contributors already have the diligent solver badge and if it appears for 1 month next to our profile pic would also be cool

          • Nov 26, 2019 at 01:02 PM

I don't think it's a good idea (to show diligent solver badge). Only some permanent achievements has to be shown to provide info about user reputation.

            • Nov 27, 2019 at 04:43 AM

              Exactly!

              permanent achievements

Permanent achievements in the sense which we have gathered over the time, that should be reflected against username.

I guess everyone cannot be active always, as in my case I had to take a break after 2014 and was not that active for quite a long period.

              Thanks,

              Sijin

How do you think I feel? I reached unobtanium! ;-)

    • Nov 25, 2019 at 09:07 AM

I guess I would need to console with that :-)

'Unobtainium' badge is there which is invisible ;-)

But do you agree with my thoughts if not fully at-least to some extent ?

  • Nov 25, 2019 at 09:41 AM

Badge visible near the user name is some indicator that the answer is provided by some reliable person!

  • Nov 25, 2019 at 02:45 PM

Sijin Chandran thank you for the input! Audrey is on vacation this week and can comment on your ideas when she returns.

    Hi All,

Only just catching up on threads I missed while I was on vacation and then out sick.

Dell is right: when we launched as SAP Community on the new platform two years ago, we intentionally moved away from public points and leaderboards, to focus on recognizing quality content over quantity of activity. This was based on our experience in SDN and SCN with sometimes rampant cheating to gain status that was based on public points and leaderboards. That cheating angered members who played by the rules, and it annoyed moderators and wasted everyone’s time with “noise” posts.

To keep the motivation factor up for our members in the community, we have karma credits, which only the member themselves (and moderators) can see, and we have a long list of missions that provide incentive and, we hope, some fun: https://community.sap.com/resources/missions-badges.

As I’ve stated in some other threads, we are always listening to your feedback and input when it comes to improving how we recognize members, and we look forward to rolling out more reputation improvements in the future.

To my mind, the key benefit of having some badge after the user name in answers and comments is for the person asking question. When this person will see that the answer is provided by the user with good reputation then he will pay attention to this answer. Same for comment.

    • Dec 18, 2019 at 07:43 PM

P.S. On StackOverflow we can see badges and points near user names in answers :)

    • Dec 24, 2019 at 03:58 AM
we have a long list of missions that provide incentive

I am not aware of any incentive. Is it published for public view?

      • Dec 24, 2019 at 02:43 PM

Lakshmipathi Ganesan the link to the missions is in my comment above. The badges are the incentive; perhaps you misunderstood my statement and thought I was referring to something physical or monetary, which is not the case.
