Defending the spirit of Coffee Corner Discussions

Hello Coffee Corner participants,

have you ever reflected about Coffee Corner Discussions? Is it a place where you can take a time out of your daily work? Where you are not bothered by mercantile questions? A place that is free for a little craziness?

Why do I ask this? Because the above was my impression being here. Starting to feel home I posted a short comment defending this spirit. Comment deleted by moderator with no explanation. Have I been wrong all along?

So this discussion is my legacy: What is the spirit of Coffee Corner Discussions?

Manfred, I agree with your point of view.

And of course CC is also a place for curious folks, so now I'm eager to know about your

Guess I'm asking you to re-post that one:)

      Hello Volker,

See below. Not my comment was the problem, but the whole discussion. It was not a discussion, but kinda advertisement for a job. The first comment was about redirecting the author to the local SAP subsidiary. My comment was about the redirect: 'That's right. Because this is the tavern channel. Not the looking-4-group or trade channel :-)'. If any of you play MMORPGs, you should know what I meant.

      Thanks for backing me.

Mind you, methinks the coffee corner is more of a Barrens-Chat ;-P, but without the profanity.

        • Jul 08 at 11:58 AM

I wasn't sure if the barrens chat is renown enough for the author of the other(deleted) 'discussion'. But yes: actually I had the barrens chat in mind :-).

Edit: Shame on me. I forgot. Being in barrens chat demands it: FOR THE HORDE!!!

Ah, I see, actually I had read that one – skål!

    Hi Manfred,

I had a closer look at your case and found out that it was not your comment that was deleted (your comment is totally fine and funny!) but it was the entire discussion, as it was reported to the moderators.

1.) The discussion contained personal information, which is violating our SAP Community rules of engagement. It also seemed less suitable in the coffee corner, but more in Q&A under the "Careers" tag (which was, why it was reported to us, as well)

2.) We recently updated the notification functionality and it seems that you have received an incorrect information. We're looking into this bug and hope to get it fixed soon. meanwhile rest assured, that moderators do provide reasons to members who's content have to be deleted. In your case, it was the discussion author, who received that message, not you. We're sorry for that inconvenience.

    Have a nice day! :)

    Best regards, Mynyna

Looks like I have the same issue here: https://answers.sap.com/questions/12719154/calling-and-refreshing-the-data-in-an-analysis-for.html

2 my comments were deleted due to answer deleted!

    • Jul 04 at 11:28 AM

      Thanks Mynyna for clarifying.

Logged in this morning and received a notification. A comment has been deleted: '...Please ensure that your contributions comply with our Rules of Engagement...'. Not knowing which rule I have violated, this upset me a little. Didn't think, that perhaps the whole discussion has been deleted. I know. Should stop taking stuff too personal :-).

      Hi Mynyna,

If i can suggest you a little improvement (and no, i'll not go to the hell place where ideas die), when a comment is deleted, the moderator should explain which rule wasn't respected.

I was in the same thread with Manfred and receiving a "your comment doesn't respect the rules" when I just suggested to refer to the local SAP office, well, it makes me to avoid giving any other help or suggestion.

      • Jul 04 at 02:33 PM

Well, it's quite easy to comply with the RoE: Just refrain from posting comments on questions or answers that may be deleted lateron.

      • Jul 05 at 09:59 AM

As mentioned to Manfred earlier, moderators provide reasons to members who's content have to be deleted. To make this a bit clearer: the notification message for these content authors consists of a general text referring to the RoE and a placeholder for the moderator message, where the moderator explains the explicit reason for deletion.

There was a temporary issue with the moderator message not being included in the notification, but it is fixed now.

Again, the notification message you, Manfred and Vadim received is incorrect and IT is working on a fix.

On behalf of the US part of the Community who were mostly out last week due to the national holiday I demand a re-post of the funny comment! :)
