Reduce Carbon Impact - Train ride to SAP TechEd 2019 Barcelona

Hello SAP Community,

based on CARBON CALCULATOR an economy return flight from Munich to Barcelona would have a CO2 impact of 320 kg. Compared to that a train ride would account for only 40 kg. As many of us have to travel from central Europe to Barcelona, Spain. I've checked the available connections and found one leaving Munich in the Morning with a TGV to Paris. From there there is this connection to Barcelona (unfortunately the connection on i.e. Sunday, 6th October 2019 can't yet be found):

So what's about starting the conference and building networks already before the conference? I've enjoyed this in 2008 - Riding the SAP Cluetrain to Berlin. There is even a Video produced by Dennis Howlett from this ride.

Would you be interested in joining me from Paris to Barcelona? Add your thoughts / voice your interest here. For the details of organisation we can start a Wiki page in the SAP Inside Track area.

Update 26th July 2019:

Via Fred Verheul and myself (starting in Munich) booked the following 1st class connection:

Please join us if you want.

Best regards

As I already booked everything I need to deny here. Additionla to that with my family at home I'm not able to leave a day earlier.

But when Teched comes back to Berlin / Netherlands or France I will join you for sure.

Great idea Gregor, definitely worth to think about.
Great opportunity to reduce the CO2 footprint and expand your network.

This sound almost like the "ClueBus" in San Francisco organized by Mark Finnern Great initiative! :-)

I am not joining SAP TechEd Barcelona this year, unfortunately.

But I wanted to let you know what I experienced more than 20 years ago while traveling to South France via train: I had to change the train stations in Paris means I needed to take the taxi from one train station to the other... your post just reminded me to it... maybe you check upfront ;-) But, I mean, it is more than 20 years ago...

Enjoy! And have a safe trip!

      Hi Svea,

I know that I need to change train stations in Paris. But there is the Paris Metro which makes this easy.

      Best regards

      > more than 20 years ago while traveling to South France via train

      Reads like "Interrail" to me...right?

Nope. Normal train ride. My father was working for Deutsche Bahn so family members had special terms and conditions while traveling with DB.

Still surprised why it is needed to change train stations. But when it can be easily done via Metro then it's okay.

My current plan is to also take a train to get to TechEd in Barcelona, but from Malaga near where I'll be on vacation in October.

    Hi Gregor,

I'd definitely be interested in travelling to Barcelona together like this. Do you already have plans with regard to the schedule? Which day(s) would you prefer to travel, and which times? I'm thinking of using the Sunday to get to Barcelona, and the next Sat back home, since that would also cater to #sitbcn. Nothing is definitive yet however.

    Thanks, Fred

I will definitely travel to Barcelona by train on the Sunday. With the 14:07 Train from Paris. I will start my trip in Munich in the Morning and arrive about noon in Paris.
