Happy International Day of Happiness :-)

According to the United Nations, today, March 20th, recognizes “the relevance of happiness and well-being as universal goals and aspirations in the lives of human beings around the world and the importance of their recognition in public policy objectives.”

This made me start thinking about what happiness means to me and I wondered if it is much different from what it means to others. To me, it is a feeling of joy, looking at the things I learned (and still learn now), what I achieved, reflecting what I am thankful for, spending good times with family and friends, constantly contributing to my environment (helping others, being sustainable), appreciating and enjoying the beauty of life and nature and seeing the positive side of things in any situation. Things that make me happy are for example: watching a clear sky full of stars or sunsets with different cloud formations, taking care of my well-being through exercising and having a good time (meeting friends and family, enjoying food, art, photography & dance), learning new stuff and much more…

But I’m also happy when I get to know about new things or people and what others are passionate about. Especially here, in the coffee corner, is where I find myself smiling a lot by reading through posts like Morten Wittrock's “Greetings Lego Builders” where I’m impressed by the creative minds in the community, the insightful posts by Bärbel Winkler about climate change discussions, or great pictures of the community’s travel destinations by Aditya Varrier. There are many more of such great posts and I’m sure there are many more to come which add to the small things that make one happy, so for me this day is a great day for me to be thankful that I get to read these posts, reflecting on and doing more of what makes me happy.

I’d love to hear what happiness means to you and what makes you happy. And since today is also the Day of the French Language I would also not mind your comment in French. :-)

La vie est belle et la joie prolonge la vie!

    Thanks for the mention, Mynyna!

What makes me happy? Watching our resident pair of peregrine falcons (hopefully) raise the chicks bound to hatch in about 3 weeks from the 4 eggs they currently sit on. Giving visitors of the Stuttgart zoo "Wilhelma" some insights into and appreciation for the natural world both within and outside of the zoo (the Wilhelma supports about a dozen in situ projects across the globe!). Figuring out why something doesn't work as it should and finding a solution to make it work again.

Happy Thursday! Ehm, i missed the happy Wednesday, that makes me sad! :-) LOL

Ok seriously. What makes me happy is my family and everything that has to do with the family
Also everything that satisfies me, e.g. good food, success, friends :)

I think we should look more at the things that make us happy, the positive stuff instead of claiming what we do not have, or dislike! Open your eyes and look around!

And if you really see somthing you don't like just a) ignore it or b) MOVE IT!!!

    Cheers! Kati

I agree, Kati. We definitely should look to the things which make us happy. And also see the minor things like the sun is shining, the beautiful spring... and as already mentioned in other conversations I also do such little things like smiling at people, let cars go ahead, hold the door open for others... Recently, when I was at a bakery, there was a little boy with a voucher card but there were 5 cents missing... so I just said to the clerk "I pay it" and afterwards I saw that his mother was just sitting around the corner... :-)
And I also like the theme "love it or leave it".

      Happy Monday, everyone!

It's almost Friday. That makes me happy. Does that count? :)

(Sorry, I don't know how to say that in French. I barely speak English.)

It does count! And I'm sure you're not the only one happy about that :D

Very good, Aditya! Thanks for sharing your happy-list - I like that you are creative singing and drawing.

How many movies of your 1TB collection have you watched already and how many are still to be watched? I'm sure with your "Movie Mania" Coffee Corner post, you will be adding some more to your collection :-)
